Just another Monday as the world's economy hums along. Stocks are up. A fine Fall day can be had just for walking out the door. All is well with the world. Well, that may be going a tad too far.
As one who recently started paying closer attention to oil and other basic bits that allow the economy of the USA and many other countries continue to provide, I am somewhat aghast that the times we have lived in to now may be the high point.
Not that I wasn't warned, and didn't contemplate the possibility along the way. Dear old Dad, bless him was know to say that he reckoned that his generation had seen the best of what the world had to offer. Now, I suspect that he was right about that, assuming you equate ease of living and ability to acquire stuff as being 'best'.
For those unfamiliar with the concept of peak oil, I suggest a good spot to start your education is www.theoildrum.com which has a lot information and is updated daily. The idea that oil, and other basics, could reach a ceiling in terms of availability is nothing new. The fact that some are paying more attention to it than in the past is. Understanding what this might mean to the way in which we all live in the future will be a help as things like gas, fertilizer and other products that depend on petroleum in one way or another start to become less readily available.
Rather than have to have discussions with folks over and over to spread the word, gather information, and otherwise have an ongoing discussion on the subject, the use of a blog seemed a lot more efficient. This will also give a chance to suggest some films and/or other media that might be useful along the way to understand what may be on the way.
